With the current internet blueprint, there are very few excuses that cover why I don’t have a specific skill or understand a specific content area. The nearly unlimited amount of information at my figure tips gives me no excuse not to know. As part of the MAET program at Michigan State University’s College of Education, my CEP 810 course is challenging me to obtain a skill using only YouTube and Internet Help Forums to learn, understanding and implement the knowledge. I use a slimmed down version of this strategy on a regular basis in my career as an Academic Technology Coordinator, but I have never used it to the extent I plan to take this strategy in the next 4 weeks.
As you may be able to tell from the pictures above, my landscaping skills are nothing to be desired. The combination of lack of knowledge and parenting two very young children has resulted in the lowering of priority and neglect of our landscape. My initial research has shown me that I have a lot to learn. Thankfully there are tons of YouTube Videos and Help Forums available in this content area. This less than four-minute video gives me a good baseline understanding of what I’m up against. I have also located Gardenweb.com which appears to have a vast library of archived help forums and a responsive community that I will be able to utilize as questions arise. I look forward to transforming the two flowerbeds above and improving my landscaping skills to use throughout my life.
